As a festival that exists to nurture a new generation of filmmakers, every year we like to recognise the film that best represents brilliant work by emerging creative talent. It was with great pleasure we presented the Greenhorn Short Film Festival 2015 BEST OF THE FEST Award to Jimmy Dean’s Charity!
Set in a run-down coastal town, Charity presents a bleak and barren portrait of a broken family attempting to mend itself. The understated action is given weight by deep emotional undercurrent, the script is peppered with some of the festival’s most truthful dialogue, and the whole film is painted in a cold, lonely palette of seaside blues and greys.
With a strong female lead, incredibly genuine script and carefully considered cinematography, this is a remarkable filmmaking debut by a young director we’ll be hearing a lot more about.
You can’t spell slaughter without laughter. One of many things you’ll learn at our Laughter Live screening and comedy evening!
We’ll be screening 5 dark and surreal short films at The Proud Archivist on 13th November, followed by a live stand up performance featuring the off-kilter antics of Beth Vyse and Adam Hess.
This is one of two events in our 2015 programme that will be held at the fantastic Proud Archivist. Sitting pretty on the Regent’s Canal in Haggerston, The Proud Archivist is an inspiring blend of gallery, café, bar/restaurant and event space, founded to reflect and represent the interests and passions of the people of Hackney. Needless to say, we couldn’t be PROUDER (sorry) to be partnering them for this year’s festival!
So paint your funny bones black, warm up your awkward giggle and come help us make light of the darkness!

If there’s one thing every film festival needs, it’s a glittering opening ceremony. The buzz of the crowd, the grins of the filmmakers, the twinkle of the smartphone camera flashes! Come 11th November, festival fever will descend on the ArtHouse Crouch End for The Selection, the opening screening of the Greenhorn Short Film Festival 2015!
Returning to our glorious hub venue for another year, we’ll be screening a selection of the animated and live action short films that really caught our eye from this year’s submissions, followed by a chance to meet the filmmakers and the presentation of the Best of the Fest Award.
And we couldn’t be happier to be back at the ArtHouse Crouch End. Once a Salvation Army music hall, the building has been reborn as a cultural venue that exists to break down barriers between normally disparate artistic media. An organisation after our own heart!
Tickets available via the ArtHouse Crouch End Box Office
